Hockey -- Good Nut Grafs

Here are some good ones. Look at how they amplify and detail what you had in the lede. This one answers the "why" posed by the lede:

The Okemos School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to ban male athletes from playing on female teams, set to take effect immediately.

School board members said they made the decision for the safety of athletes participating in sports in the Okemos School District. They said that the size, speed and power of male athletes pose a hazard for female players.

This next one offers a bit of important background on why this has become an issue in teh first place:

The Okemos School Board voted unanimously on Tuesday night to ban boys from participating on girls' sports teams at Okemos High School.

The vote comes after four male students helped the girls' field hockey team make the state playoffs last year. The policy bans boys from competing in softball, volleyball and field hockey at the school.

This one looks at consequences of the decision:

Okemos High School's board unanimously decided Tuesday night to ban boys from playing on girls' sports teams.

The policy bans boys from playing on the girls' field hockey, volleyball and softball teams and takes immediate effect. It says the size, speed and power of male athletes pose a hazard for female players.

... and this one concentrates on its meaning and context:

The Okemos School Board unanimously banned high school boys from playing on girls' sports teams Tuesday night, citing safety concerns for girl players.

The decision was met with criticism from some students, parents and Okemos High School officials, who say the decision is not only discriminatory, but could hurt the success of some teams.

All four of these ledes are fairly similar, but in each nut graf, each writer found a different bit of supporting information to emphasize. All work well. Which works best?
