Why? Didn't you promise her that you would not?
If you didn't use her last name, did you tell readers WHY you weren't?
In "Elements of Journalism," we talked about being transparent with readers. Part of that transparency includes telling readers why we aren't fully identifying somebody.
You really needed a disclaimer like . . .
. . . said Sabrina, who spoke on the condition that her last name not be used.
Some of you launched from talking about the problem in general to taking specifically about the girl without ever first explaining why she mattered. It would have helped to separate the two by having a transitional graf or phrase, like this:
Indicative of the problem is Sabrina, a 14-year-old girl who ...
