It's not "he claimed." It's "he said."
It's not "she responded." It's "she said."
It's not "she continued." It's "she said."
'Nuff said on that.
Plus,
the attribution is better at the start of end of a quote, and not in
the middle of a quote unless separating two sentences. So instead of
doing this:
"Only through self-discipline," he said, "can you achieve freedom."
. . . you are better off doing this:
"Only through self-discipline can you achieve freedom," he said.
