Controversial: A Good Nut Graf!

Let's take a look at this lede/but graf/body of story grouping.

A controversial new policy to ban boys from girls’ sports teams was unanimously passed by Detroit School Board on Tuesday night.

The decision, which will be implemented immediately, comes in response to the girls field hockey season last year in which four boys played for their school’s team, resulting in several opposing team forfeits for the safety of their players.

Students, parents, faculty and school board members alike have had strong responses to the decision.

Detroit High School athletic director Hugh Baker feels the decision is “unfair ... "

First, you have a nice, compact lede that says what happened, who did the decision making and who is going to be affected. Then the nut graf expands on that: it says when the decision takes effect, and why it was made.

It mines a second layer of supporting info that is helpful for the reader to have to make sense of what happened.

Then, once the lede and nut graf is established, you get into the he-said and she-said and quotes and the supporting evidence that lays down what your lede concluded and your nut graf expanded upon.
